About a week ago a friend of mine reached out for help with her fall décor (can I get a woot woot for fall?!) . She is one of my fellow farmhouse décor obsessed friends and she was needing help with what to do with all of the greenery she uses to decorate her home with during the warmer months. My response: Uhm, yes please! Girl I am ALL OVER IT! I love her style and eye so it was a total compliment she reached out!
Instantly I went to some of my favorite blogs to see what they had done for farmhouse décor, because I honestly wasn’t really sure! I came to the conclusion that it isn’t so much about switching out all of the greenery, as it is adding some orange, and brown tones to it. It made me start thinking about fall décor and I wanted to share some things to help you as you cozy up your homes for the yummiest time of the year!
1. Fluff it up!
When I started pulling out all of my fall stuff, I quickly learned I needed more! Tablescapes and vinettes are great but only if they’re full and overflowing. This doesn’t mean pull out all of your random stuff and thow it in a bowl and call it good, choose carefully. Try to mix textures and textiles (wood, greenery, galvanized metal, etc.)
2. Consider height variations
I’ve come a little ways since my bright eyed and bushy tailed days as a newly wed decoating her home. This is probably the thing I wish I would have known how to do better in the beginning. When creating centerpieces and tablescapes, think about adding heights to make the eye have to move up and down as you glance at the area. Different heights add demision and depth (especially if you are working with minimal pieces). Candles are a great way to do this simply.
3. Mix textures (and greenery)
Pops of green can add life to any room, but when you’re wanting to get ready for fall, you can mix those greeneries with the orange, browns, and maroons of fall (but it fall doesn't mean you HAVE to put orange decor in your home!). Also…it never hurts to mix textures! If you’ve got a neutral pallete in your home…keeping things neutral is totally acceptable! As is anything that makes your heart smile.
See this fall tablescape from Liz Marie Blog...zero orange. And its guh-orggg-eous! Makes my farmhouse lovin' heart go pitter patter.
Now go forth and decorate! I hope your homes a full and lovely this fall. And remember, we've got plenty to help you with fall decorating at RE! Until next time ya'll!
